Charlene Sumnall and Carolina Bracken appear in the Court of Appeal
Charlene Sumnall leading Carolina Bracken appeared for the Registrant in a renewed application for leave to appeal against conviction by Anthony McGrath, a surgeon convicted of insurance fraud, mortgage fraud, and perverting the course of justice. Mr McGrath faked a burglary at his home, falsely claiming that several antiques - including a fireplace - had been stolen.
The appeal had a long and complex history, spanning from shortly after Mr McGrath’s conviction in 2019. The application on all 9 grounds was dismissed.
Charlene and Carolina prosecuted the original trial. The case received widespread media coverage, including the BBC, the Times, and the Mail. The investigation was covered in 24 Hours in Police Custody The Detective and the Surgeon, which subsequently featured on Gogglebox.
