Care Home Owner Sentenced Following Fatal Fire

The owner of a care home in Hertfordshire has been sentenced following a fire in which two elderly residents tragically died.

Miles Bennett and Andrew Johnson acted for Hertfordshire County Council, who, in its capacity as the fire authority, prosecuted Newgrage of Cheshunt Limited for five offences contrary to fire safety legislation.

Mr Justice Dingemans fined the company £175,000. The Chief Fire Officer for Hertfordshire, Daryl Keen, said after the hearing that the incident 'highlights the need for all business owners to ensure they fully comply with fire safety legislation'.

National media including BBC News reported on the sentencing hearing.
