First-six pupils on their feet
Tatiana Hewitt
In her first six, Tatiana has observed the prosecution and defence of an array of matters, from criminal trials to a judicial review. The cases she has observed include complex fraud, national security and other serious and general crime such as unlawful wounding, strangulation, firearm possession, PWITS and regulatory offences.
Prior to embarking on pupillage, and during her studies, Tatiana was a Student Adviser for the BPP Legal Advice Clinic assisting on a range of housing matters including drafting advice on grounds for rent appeals and liability on service charges. Tatiana has also previously acted as a Witness Service Volunteer providing support and guidance to victims and witnesses of crime at court.
Her non-practising pupillage has been spent under the supervision of Michael Hick and Charlene Sumnall.
Gabriel Barnes
During the first six months of his pupillage, Gabriel has experienced a wide variety of general criminal work, encompassing burglary, fraud, murder, and the full range of sexual offences. He has benefitted from observing every stage in the lifetime of a criminal case, from pre-trial conferences and first appearances, to sentence and confiscation hearings.
He has also shadowed members of chambers in regulatory proceedings at the Nursing and Midwifery Council, as well as in trading standards cases prosecuted by the local authority.
His non-practising pupillage has been spent under the supervision of Charlene Sumnall and Michael Hick.
Gabriel studied French and Russian at the University of Oxford before converting to law, completing the Bar Course, and commencing pupillage. Alongside his studies, he volunteered at the Intervene Project, a charity which provides free legal advice to prisoners.
Both Tatiana and Gabriel have received training on Representing Child Clients run by the Youth Justice Legal centre (YJLC).
Chambers wishes them all the best at this exciting and unforgettable time of their careers. To instruct Tatiana or Gabriel, please contact chambers at clerks@5pb.co.uk.
