Carolina Bracken Prosecutes John Lewis

Carolina Bracken prosecuted John Lewis PLC for various offences contrary to the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, instructed by Milton Keynes City Council.

The offending arose from an incident in which a contractor fell in a warehouse and broke his hip, requiring surgery. In sentencing, the Judge concluded that the risk assessments conducted were insufficient, and the manoeuvre the contractor had been required to undertake was “inherently unsafe”.

With full credit, the company was fined £1.2 million.
