Carolina Bracken and Stephen Hopper secure conviction in conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation
Carolina Bracken and Stephen Hopper of 5PB both appeared on behalf of Herts County Council in the case of Beauchamp and others.
Ms Beauchamp ultimately pleaded guilty to her part in a significant conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation. The fraudsters obtained around £680,000 from Herts CC which was intended to cover the care needs of a young person with severe learning difficulties. Most of that money was used instead to fund the lifestyle of two co-defendants, who are still on the run having failed to attend court. Ms Beauchamp played the role of a "named carer", receiving funds while pretending that they were her wages, before then returning the majority of the money to the two main protagonists. She was sentenced to two years' imprisonment.
