5PB Members Act in Match Fixing Case

Four members of chambers recently appeared at Birmingham Crown Court, to represent two footballers who were accused of participating in what the Daily Telegraph called English Football's Biggest Match Fixing Scandal.

Mark Wyeth QC and Ben Douglas-Jones secured the acquittal of Hakeem Adelakun, a former Crystal Palace academy player, after a five week trial. The essence of his case was that he was duped into attending a meeting with an undercover National Crime Agency officer on the false premise that it was with a football agent.

Denis Barry and Michael Attenborough represented Michael Boateng, a former Football Conference player, who was convicted of conspiracy to commit bribery.
