The Chambers Trading Standards Practice Group is extremely well equipped to deal with all aspects of criminal, consumer and Trademark Law. Chambers has experience in Enterprise Act Orders (Civil) and criminal defence and prosecutions. Members of Chambers have already provided seminars at this year’s Trading Standards Conference on the potential impact of the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive and Fraud Bill on Trading Standards authorities and prosecutions. Members of the team are recognised for having a substantial level of expertise in this area of law. In conjunction with Chambers' licensing team, the group is able to advise, prosecute or defend in all areas of underage sales.
Members of the team have prosecuted for Norfolk CC, Herts CC, Suffolk CC, Essex CC, Kingston-upon-Hull City Council, Bedfordshire CC, London Borough of Brent and Harrow, London Borough of Waltham Forest, London Borough of Camden, London Borough of Islington, London Borough of Merton and many others.
Members of the team defend individuals, partnerships and limited companies. Members also regularly appear on behalf of two supermarket chains on a number of issues ranging from pricing and out-of-date food to product safety and heath and safety issues.
We also work with the Assets Recovery Agency in conjunction with Trading Standards Departments and confiscation proceedings.
As a group, we also provide:
 |
advice on new legislation and its impact on investigations and prosecutions; |
 |
review of operational procedures and “due diligence” issues; and |
