Too many chambers approach European human rights law as an academic exercise. This is not how we operate at 5pb. Guided by clients’ specific interests, we have the working expertise to advise on the practical impact of European human rights law – and to turn its provisions into successful outcomes.

Members of Chambers were among the pioneers who applied European human rights law in the courts even before the Convention was incorporated into domestic law, appearing before the European Commission for Human Rights in matters relating to the Guinness fraud trial.

Following the Human Rights Act 1998, we have developed substantial experience of advising on its impact within the UK. We are particularly well-placed to advise on European human rights issues in connection with fraud legislation, fair trial provisions, freedom of speech, privacy and anti-money laundering regulations, drawing on our established strengths in criminal law and fraud. We have further areas of related expertise in regulatory and disciplinary proceedings, health and safety, environmental law, media law and extradition.

Members of chambers frequently lecture and publish on the subject, both through our CPD programme and independently.

Clients consistently rate 5pb for our ability to turn black-letter law into clear, measurable benefits. To find out more about how we can help you, or to speak directly with a tenant, please contact Dale Jones, Senior Clerk, on 0207 583 6117.
