The practice group is led by Jonathan Caplan QC, who is listed as a leading media and entertainment silk in the Legal 500. Our client base covers national newspapers and television companies as well as individual claimants in a range of work, including programme content, regulatory issues, confidentiality, privacy, contempt and defamation.

Chambers continues to appear in many of the leading contempt cases, both under the Contempt of Court Act and at common law, and frequently advises on pre-publication and pre-broadcast issues. Chambers also represents clients before regulatory bodies.

Recent cases include representing Channel 4 Television, Associated Newspapers and the BBC as follows:

The established strength of our media law practice draws on our leading reputation in the related areas of crime and European human rights.

Members of chambers regularly lecture and publish on media law as experts on contempt and defamation. Additionally, Jonathan Caplan is one of the Adjudicators for the Dubai Broadcasting and Publishing Standards Tribunal. He lectures frequently to media conferences in this country and abroad.
