Our reputation is built upon some of the best talent at the criminal bar. In addition, at a time of change to the profession, lay and professional clients alike benefit from the outstanding quality of our case management and clerking, resulting in cost-effective use of court time and resources.

For the last 50 years, members have appeared in high-profile criminal cases at first instance and on appeal. Recent examples include:

Camp Breadbasket Iraqi "torture" photo trials;
R v Soares and others: representing the first and seventh defendants in a conspiracy to import very large amounts of cocaine;
Operation Blossom: representing one of ten members of an international software piracy organisation involving 43 jurisdictions;
R v Hendy-Freegard: prosecuting the bogus M15 agent kidnapper;
Operation Krypton: advising the CPS on the largest-ever investigation into corruption in horseracing; and
R v Ramzan, and others: resisting a series of appeals brought following the House of Lords decision in R v Saik.

5pb prosecutes and defends across the full range of criminal practice at every level of the criminal justice system, including large-scale drug importation, corruption of public servants, firearms offences, blackmail and serious violence. The Attorney-General’s list of prosecutors includes members of chambers at all levels.

Members of chambers have particular experience in cases involving public interest immunity and sensitive disclosure issues, vulnerable witnesses, parallel proceedings and high technology crime. Chambers’ expertise in the related areas of fraud and corporate crime, proceeds of crime and extradition adds to our leading reputation in crime.

Members regularly lecture on crime and publish as authors, contributing editors and editors in Archbold and other journals and practitioners’ guides. Jonathan Caplan QC and Justin Cole are members of the editorial board of the Journal of Criminal Law.

We bring an exceptional quality of representation and case management to all cases, regardless of level, size or scale of complexity. To discuss your requirements in detail with our senior clerk, Dale Jones, or to speak directly with a tenant, please call 0207 583 6117.

Group Leader: Graham Trembath QC
Research co-ordinators: James Norman & Thomas Quinton
