Company found guilty of failing to prevent bribery

Julian Christopher QC instructed by the CPS Specialist Fraud Division has successfully prosecuted a company (Skansen Interiors Ltd) for failing to prevent bribery in a trial at Southwark Crown Court.

The company’s Managing Director, Stephen Banks had given money to Graham Deakin, a Project Manager at DTZ Debenham Tie Leung Limited, as a reward for improperly seeking to influence tender processes in which the company won contracts worth £6m for office refurbishments in London. The jury rejected the company’s defence that it had had adequate procedures designed to prevent bribery in place.
