CPS Prosecution Advocates Panel Member - Grade 4 (General Crime and Rape Panels)

Recommended in Chambers and Partners guide as a leader for both crime and fraud, where he is described in the following terms: "Excellent rapport with clients...", "Really tough in court" and "....incredibly hard working and bright lawyer...", "applauded for his dedication and energy".

Has prosecuted and defended in most types of crime, from theft to murder. In recent years has mainly concentrated on defending in fraud cases, gang related murder, and other conspiracies. Often instructed as a leading junior, and is on the Treasury Solicitor’s list of Special Advocates( able to view sensitive material in terrorist cases and represent interests of terrorist suspects in closed sessions before SIAC).

EXAMPLES OF RECENT CASES:

As leading advocate:

R v Bello and others. Represented a defendant in 13 week trial in a conspiracy to facilitate illegal immigration which included a solicitor and a GP as defendants.

 

As sole defence advocate:

 

R v Balraj Singh (Central Criminal Ct): trial counsel in allegation of murder of a work colleague.

 

R v Dolo (Central Criminal Ct): representing serving soldier charged with rape. Case dismissed at half time following cross-examination of complainant.

 

R v Tharmarajah and others (Central Criminal Ct): gang conflict between rival Tamil gangs involving charges of attempted murder and violent disorder. Case dismissed at half time following cross-examination of main complainant. 

 

R v Krishnapillai: representing at trial, and Court of Appeal, a university lecturer charged with historic child rape. Convictions quashed by Court of Appeal.
