James was called to the Bar in 2008.  He both prosecutes and defends.

 

As part of his defence practice, James appears regularly in the Crown Court, successfully defending at trial in numerous cases of violence and dishonesty, including as first on the Indictment in multi handed cases.

 

James was recently instructed by the Fraud Prosecution Service as Junior in the successful prosecution of a 6 handed boiler room fraud, termed by journalists as the "Real-life hustle 2012 fraud."

 

James is regularly instructed by Media Protection Services to prosecute cases of copyright theft throughout England & Wales. James has also recently been instructed by the Office of Fair Trading in relation to the prosecution of an 11 handed, multi-million pound 'Pyramid Selling' scheme. He also regularly advises the OFT in relation to Consumer Protection Legislation, and particularly Internet Enforcement.

 

James lectures as part of CPD accredited programmes, most recently concerning the Police Property Act 1897 and the latest authorities in relation to its use by the police.  James has successfully acted on behalf of clients at contested hearings concerning the return of previously seized high value goods.

 

Out of criminal practice, James pursues an academic interest in Judicial Review, and has aided several members of chambers in the drafting of advice as well as preparation of appeals in this area.
