Andrew has a general criminal practice, acting both for defendants and prosecuting authorities. He is experienced in dealing with a wide range of offences, including offences against the person, property offences, fraud, controlled drugs and road traffic offences. He appears across the range of courts exercising criminal jurisdiction, from Magistrates’ Courts and Youth Courts through to the Crown Court and the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division).

In addition to prosecuting for the Crown Prosecution Service and the Department of Work and Pensions, Andrew is regularly instructed to prosecute on behalf of Media Protection Services and the Federation Against Copyright Theft. As a result of this work, he has a particular insight into how the criminal law can be used to protect intellectual property rights. In the course of these prosecutions, he has successfully resisted arguments made on behalf of defendants that provisions of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 infringe European Union law.

Andrew has particular experience in cases with a technological element, including cases involving evidence obtained from electronic sources and cases founded on cell-site evidence.

Andrew is also experienced in areas linked to criminal practice, including extradition law and prison law, and continues to welcome instructions in these areas.
